Galva is home to three municipal parks and host to the Galva Park District.

The City of Galva’s Street Department is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the municipal parks: Washington Park, Wiley Park, and Veteran’s Park.

The Galva Park District Board is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Galva Park assets (land, buildings and equipment) and is its own tax authority.

Parks

The Galva Park District spans 33 acres and includes a wide range of amenities for both residents and visitors. The park can be accessed via a tree-lined memorial walkway, a designated parking lot, or street parking near the concession stand for those attending ball games.

Washington Park was originally designated as part of Galva’s Industrial Development Area and now functions as a buffer between industrial development to the north and residential neighborhoods to the south of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. The park is regularly used for recreational activities, family gatherings, and community events. It also serves as a practice area for local soccer and t-ball teams.

Wiley Park is the most popular park in Galva for social gatherings and community events. The park hosts car shows, tractor shows, award banquets, music & art events, community breakfasts, talent shows, fitness runs, and seasonal recreational activities such as an old-fashioned outdoor ice skating, weather permitting.

Veterans Park is dedicated to Galva residents who lost their lives in service to the country. Located in the downtown area, the park features landscaped green space that complements the surrounding environment. It serves as the site for regular community events, including a seasonal lunch series and the city’s annual Christmas light display, and is a frequently visited location for both relaxation and public gatherings.
