Illinois municipalities were granted the authority to create planning commissions in 1961 under state law (65 ILCS 5/11-12-4), though those formed earlier were allowed to continue. The planning commission is appointed by the mayor with confirmation by the city council. Members must live within the municipality or within 1.5 miles of its boundaries, excluding areas within another municipality.
Galva’s Planning Commission reviews petitions for certain special use permits, such as operating a business from a home in a residential area and considering all proposed changes to the Zoning Ordinance. Additional information about the Planning Commission is on the Planning page.
Attend A Meeting
Planning Commission meetings are open to the public and held at City Hall. Because the Planning Commission only meets when business comes before it, check with City Hall, watch the News & Announcements section on the Homepage of this website, and keep an eye out for announcements in the The Prairie News for the next scheduled meeting.
