Ukrainian Vocal Ensemble YAGO

Crossroads Cultural Connections will present a powerful and immersive evening of music and storytelling with contemporary Ukrainian folk group YAGODY on Sunday, April 5 at Bishop Hill Creative Commons.
The evening will begin at 6:00 PM with an optional potluck dinner, offering guests a chance to gather and share a meal before the performance. Attendees are welcome to bring a dish to share if they wish to participate. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM.
YAGODY’s performances transcend the traditional concert format, creating what they describe as an “ethno-drama”—a fusion of Ukrainian vocal polyphony, theatrical storytelling, and ritualistic elements. Their music is not simply heard, but experienced: a living, breathing expression of culture, memory, and connection.
Drawing from ancient Ukrainian laments and weaving in influences from other cultures, YAGODY’s sound is both deeply rooted and strikingly contemporary. Their performances unfold like a ritual—blending voice, movement, rhythm, and silence into an experience that feels at once intimate and expansive. The human voice becomes a vessel of memory, and the stage transforms into a shared space where past and present meet.
YAGODY has gained international recognition for their unique artistic approach, participating in Ukraine’s Eurovision National Selection (2024–2025) and performing at major festivals and venues across Europe, including FITS in Romania, Pannonica in Poland, Rudolstadt Festival in Germany, and Sziget Festival in Hungary. Their tours have brought Ukrainian vocal traditions to audiences throughout Europe and North America, presenting them as a vibrant and evolving art form.
The concert is open to all ages, with a suggested donation of $20–$30, 100% of which goes directly to the performers, supporting artists and sustaining live music.
