The OK Factor
November 8 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Violin-and-cello duo invites listeners into more than a decade of musical conversation on November 8
A violin and cello can suggest a formal recital, but The OK Factor approaches the pairing with the freedom of folk musicians and the curiosity of composers. Cellist Olivia Diercks and violinist Karla Peters will bring their original music and arrangements to Bishop Hill Creative Commons, 309 N. Bishop Hill Street, on Sunday, November 8, 2026. Music begins at 7 p.m., with an optional potluck and social hour at 6 p.m.
The Minneapolis-based duo combines classical training with folk-inspired writing, creating music that moves beyond a single genre. After more than a decade of composing, performing, and touring together, Diercks and Peters have developed a partnership in which the exchange between the instruments is central to the experience. The Commons’ intimate setting offers listeners an opportunity to follow that conversation closely, watching the musicians respond to each other as well as hearing the interplay of their parts.
Their current work includes A Way Forward, a new album with Swedish quintet Jaerv that grows from a nearly decade-long collaboration and tours on both sides of the Atlantic. The November 8 Bishop Hill performance features The OK Factor duo. Their musical exploration has earned a 2020 American Scandinavian Foundation fellowship in Scandinavian folk arts and cultural traditions and a Minnesota State Arts Board Arts Education Grant for the 2024 school year.
Education is a substantial part of what Diercks and Peters do. Through ATLAS, their initiative for student musicians, they encourage curiosity, creative choices, and a willingness to venture beyond familiar musical paths. Their community work has brought music into libraries, senior living settings, hospitals, and other places where a traditional concert hall may be out of reach. That interest in meeting people through music also informs the way they introduce their compositions and share the experiences behind them onstage.
For local string players and music students, the concert is a chance to encounter different possibilities for familiar instruments. For listeners without a musical background, it is simply an invitation to hear two collaborators at work, with no knowledge of classical music required. Folk audiences and chamber-music listeners can approach the same evening from different directions and discover common ground.
Guests joining the optional potluck are invited to bring a dish to share. The meal and social hour offer time to meet other concertgoers before settling in for the performance. The all-ages concert has a suggested donation of $20–30, and reservations are available through Eventbrite.
Presented by Crossroads Cultural Connections, this concert continues the organization’s mission of bringing meaningful, high-quality live music experiences to Henry County and surrounding communities.
