Moving any building or structure within or into Galva necessitates a permit. Applicants must provide, along with their application, a written signed statement by a duly qualified building inspector or engineering firm indicating that the building or structure is in compliance with the City’s building codes. Any deficiencies noted by the inspector or engineer must be corrected prior to relocation.

Before commencing any installation, alteration, or change of electrical, data, or alarm wiring/equipment, an electrical permit must be obtained. This ensures compliance with the National Electrical Code adopted by the city.

A plumbing permit is required for any drainage or plumbing work, including alterations to existing systems and connections to the main sewer. Permits must be secured before starting any excavation or plumbing activities.

Certain signs are permitted in residential areas; they DO NOT require a permit. Nameplates, identification, for sale, for rent, and church bulletins are permitted.

The City of Galva allows the use of licensed neighborhood vehicles—including golf carts—on city streets, provided they meet the requirements outlined in the City’s Neighborhood Vehicle Ordinance.
