Encouraged by parents\, relatives and neighbors who valued creativity\, he began playing instruments and writing stories at an early age—interests that have continued throughout his life. \nAvett’s path has included college studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the University of Northern Colorado\, four years of service in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971\, and technical training that led to a 40-year career in the construction industry. Along the way\, music remained a constant presence. \nWhile working to support his wife\, Susan\, and their three children—Bonnie\, Scott and Seth—Avett continued playing in informal bands and collecting the stories and observations that would later become songs. The band first came together with the goal of entering Santa Barbara’s battle of the bands. Their energetic\, foot-stomping folk sound won the competition and provided the funding to record their first album. \nIn the years since\, Jeanson has continued developing a thoughtful songwriting style marked by warmth\, nostalgia and a sense of open-road adventure. Along the way\, he was joined by longtime friends and bandmates Kristen Posey and Chase Fierro\, whose musicianship and chemistry helped shape The Riverside into the trio it is today. \nThe band has toured theaters\, venues and festivals throughout the United States\, but has found a special connection with audiences through intimate house concerts in backyards and living rooms. Presented by Crossroads Cultural Connections\, the all-ages concert will begin at 7 p.m.\, following an optional community potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Bishop Hill Creative Commons will serve as the rain location. \nKnown for her commanding vocals\, heartfelt songwriting and magnetic stage presence\, Grouws has spent nearly a decade fronting the Billboard-charting Avey Grouws Band. She is now entering an exciting new chapter with the Jeni Grouws Band and the release of her debut solo album\, Music House\, on September 4—just two weeks before her Cambridge appearance. \nBlending blues\, soul and roots rock\, Grouws creates an American roots sound that is both powerful and deeply personal. Music House features songs written entirely by Grouws and was recorded at Purple House in Nashville with Grammy-winning producer Casey Wasner\, whose credits include Keb’ Mo’\, TajMo and Robben Ford. \nThe album brings together an impressive group of musicians\, including Brian Allen\, Mike Hicks and Johnny Duke\, along with special guests Drew Smithers of Marcus King Band\, Emmanuel Echem of Tedeschi Trucks Band\, Roy Agee\, Evan Cobb\, Matt Fuller\, Nick Vasquez\, David Abdo\, Kyshona and Anne Harris. \nGrouws has earned enthusiastic praise for both her singing and songwriting. Rock and Blues Muse wrote\, “It’s been a while since a vocalist gave me the chills. Grouws digs deep and you can’t turn away. She’s a belter with deep rooted soul.” \nGoldmine has called Grouws “a remarkably demonstrative vocalist\,” equally capable of delivering hard-driving rock\, blues and tender ballads. Her ability to combine that vocal power with relatable songwriting and genuine warmth has made her an especially compelling live performer. \nWith Music House\, Grouws steps forward as a solo artist with a collection of songs reflecting her own voice and vision. Audiences in Cambridge will have an opportunity to hear that new music almost immediately following the album’s release. \nGuests are invited to arrive at 6 p.m. for the optional potluck dinner and may bring a dish to share. Presented by Crossroads Cultural Connections\, the all-ages event will also feature food and drinks available for purchase from Snazzy’s Lemonade and Azteca de Oro. \nKnown for a sound that is both deeply rooted in Scotland and unmistakably modern\, Skerryvore combines bagpipes\, fiddles\, accordion and whistles with guitar\, vocals\, bass\, drums and keyboards. The result is a powerful\, expansive sound that moves easily between intimate melodies and festival-sized energy. \nFour-time winners of Scotland’s “Live Act of the Year” award\, Skerryvore have grown from their beginnings in West Coast Scottish halls and pubs into one of the country’s leading musical exports. Their high-energy performances have taken them to audiences throughout the United States\, Canada\, Australia\, the United Kingdom and Europe. \nThe band has played an important role in introducing traditional Scottish music to new audiences\, combining generations-old instruments and musical traditions with the energy and production of contemporary rock and pop. Their seven studio albums reflect the wide range of influences brought together by the band’s members. \nSkerryvore’s 2023 album\, Tempus\, reached No. 1 on both the Official Scottish Album Chart and the UK Folk Albums Chart\, while also entering the Top 40 of the Official UK Albums Chart. SUMMARY:Jordbruksdagarna (Ag Days) in Historic Bishop Hill
DESCRIPTION:The annual 19th century harvest festival Jordbruksdagarna (pronounced yord-brooks-DAH-ga-na) will take\nplace Saturday September 26 and Sunday September 27\, 2026 in historic Bishop Hill\, IL. As always\, there will be a variety of traditional craft demonstrations\, food\, vendors\, and hands-on activities for the children during\nthe 54rh Jordbruksdagarna (Swedish for “agricultural days”) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.\nDemonstrations\, hands-on activities\, music\, and the history skit are all free.\nIn the village park each day\, artisans will weave\, carve wood\, forge metal\, make butter\, and more. Vendors will\nalso be selling baked goods\, crafts\, and much more in the park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Musical performances will include Coffee Creek at noon and 2 p.m.\, and the Nordic Dancers of Chicago at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day at the gazebo. Visitors\, especially children\, can try their hand at shelling corn\, making bricks\,\nand creating a cornhusk doll. In addition\, Steve’s Mobile Petting Zoo will be located in the northwest corner of the park. \nJordbruksdagarna is not just in the park but all over Bishop Hill. Uncle Bud’s Apple Cider Slushie and Pop of\nthe Morning will be next to the Carpenter Building serving food and drinks. Nature’s Creations will be selling pumpkins\, gourds\, and more by the Colony Store. Visitors can explore Henry County’s agricultural heritage at the Henry County Historical Museum\, where a variety of antique tractors and implements will be on display outdoors. The Bishop Hill Agricultural Association will also be conducting 19th century harvest activities. Tractor people movers will also be available to transport people around town to experience many of the activities\, museums\, and stores that Bishop Hill has to offer. All the previously mentioned activities will be occurring both days. \nOn Saturday September 26 only\, at the Colony School\, the Bishop Hill Old Settlers’ Association will be selling\ntheir famous Colony Stew from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Colony School will also be hosting “Meet the Colonists” display. At the Steeple Building Museum\, the BHHA Acting Troupe will perform their Bishop Hill Colony history skit Vi ar Har (We Are Here) starting at 11 a.m. In the southwest corner of the park\, TriCo Equestrian Center will have pony rides from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a fee.
