Named for the famous port city of Gävle, Sweden, Galva is located in Henry County, Illinois, which was so named in honor of the legendary revolutionary and statesman, Patrick Henry.

Galva's Scandinavian heritage is evident in its rich history. A history complemented by industrious invention. Home to some of the world's most recognized entrepreneurs and inventors, Galvan's take great pride in a job well done.

The great Swedish painter, Olaf Krans, called Galva home, and a number of the world's most recognized businesses have taken advantage of the "City of Go". Dixline Corporation, John H. Best and Sons, LMT, Big River Resources, Invenergy, the nationally recognized Jacobsen's Bakery (see the Quad City Time's article related to this beloved institution) and a long list of others (see our business directory) have staked a claim to Galva.

From Leland Pearson's invention of a portable eduction unit to Anne Jeanblanc's knowledge management system and method, John H. Best & Son's patented display systems, Ralph Hayes' cultivator and pump regulators, to Dan Swickard's tool patent, the list is certainly not limitless, but then again, neither is it limited, as Galvan's put keen minds and sharp intellects to work on making our lives more convenient and fulfilling.

Before you decide Galva works too hard, it should be noted that our citizen's believe fun is a responsibility that must not be ignored.

Each year, the community forks over its hard-earned dollars to the local Freedom Fest Committee in order to put on an exciting, fun-filled Independence Day celebration capped off by an awe-inspiring display of fireworks at the local Park District, an event that draws approximately 10,000 visitors to town for food, fun and games.

Other events include the Galva Car Show, Concerts In The Park, parades, story telling, Tour of Homes, and that almost forgotten pastime, catching a movie at another of Galva's beloved landmarks, the Galva Autovue Drive-In Theater.
